After my last post, this is all bound to look a little fishy, but I found out today that my submission has been chosen "Pick of the Week" for the Matchbook Story blog. You can view it here, at least till February 5th, when the next pick of the week will appear there.
Which, if you get a move on right now, could be you!

ReplyDeleteHave you read "The Confessions of Zeno," by the way?

Nice review--in fine proportion to the story.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Confessions of Zeno. I believe I may have read some stories, but I'm not sure
Your story almost ends with a-- but I'll let readers see for themselves. "Confessions of Zeno" is a chronicle of Zeno's futile, years-long insistence that he is smoking his "last cigarette."

I'll have to try Confessions of Zeno. I thought a story called The Last Cigarette would make a good one for the inside of a matchbook cover. But for anyone thinking of trying, subject matter is not restricted. It's only the number of characters, meaning bits of type, that matters. You can go to the website and fiddle around with the length of your submission all you want.
ReplyDeleteMy suggestion is to start with one sentence and expand rather than to try and shrink something down.
Good advice, I'd say, and possibly a stimulating exercise as well. I hope you save plenty of the matchbooks.
ReplyDeleteOh, I doubt mine will be on the matchbook--it's just my fifteen seconds of,uh, flickering fame. But I do think I will collect the matchbooks.

Very nice. How about "Illuminating"?
ReplyDeleteOf fleeting impact, alas.
ReplyDeletePerhaps scintillating would be better.
ReplyDeleteCoruscating prose!
ReplyDeletePeter, coruscating prose stumped me more than I even knew. The results of my findings, sad though they are, are here.
